I'll make a real post eventually, some day, but for now, have a fun (and slightly sweary) history of CSS post from a blog I follow, which was a trip down memory lane for me. God, CSS3 is so *good*, y'all.
If I use Calibre to de-DRM ebooks from the library, does that fuck shit up for y'all, or is it the digital equivalent of me just photocopying an entire book before I return it (ie, not really legal, but basically irrelevant to anyone else handling the book in the future). Because Adobe Digital Editions is basically a huge pain in the ass on Linux and I would like to deal with it as little as possible, but I don't want to cause trouble for the library.

EDIT: okay this may be a moot point if I can't fucking get ADE to work on Linux at *all*

(or, more accurately, the program loads, but is convinced it has no internet connection and thus won't do anything /screams)

EDIT2: SUCCESS. I had to run winecfg, and under 'libraries', set wininet to prefer the builtin (WINE) version over the native (Windows) version. Of course ADE decided to only sort of work, and retrieved my book but would not do anything else with it, so I did in fact have to get the ADE keyfile and strip the DRM in Calibre to actually oopen it.
I feel like I have seen a bunch of SFF book talk go by on my dash/reading list over the last year or two, and I have utterly failed at noting down recommendations for when I had time for novels again. Which... I do now, so please, toss some suggestions my way :)

Posting this in my journal mostly so I can find it again next year, which will be an issue if I put it anywhere else. We had trick or treating last night, as Thursday was rainy, and probably more importantly, got very windy as the night wore on. Typically for my time-disorganized-self, I ended up putting up Halloween decorations (which is to say: mostly just lights) an hour before it started. After running out of candy last year before the night was done, I kind of panicked this year and bought frankly far too much this year, but all of it is stuff I'll eat so it's not the end of the world.

Went through roughly 140 pieces of candy, including the ones I snacked on myself. I'd guess that comes out to probably 80 or 90 kids - most took one or two pieces, though if they asked, I was giving out two (see: too much candy) - it was just too much work to tell everyone 'take two'. Three or four kids grabbed a small handful (probably 3-5 pieces) - it was rare enough that I let it go without comment. Popular: Nerds, Skittles. Not popular: Nestle Crunch (doesn't surprise me), Snickers, and Butterfinger (slightly more surprising to me?). Toddlers tended to grab the Gobstoppers, I assume because they were the smallest packaging but I was mentally like 'oh no you're too baby to eat those safely'. Next year I will probably do a more curated selection - this year it was two big mix bags that had both chocolate and non-chocolate offerings.

I thought my IG -> DW zapier config had broken but no, it turns out I just haven't posted anything other than a multi-photo dump (which Zapier doesn't pick up) on IG since mid September. Which, uh, is the state of most of my social medias these days. I'm around on Discord, and I share current happenings with friends there, but nothing more concrete, really. I've unfortunately been struggling even more than usual with constant tiredness since the spring, with unfortunately still no known physiological cause. May try to convince my PCP to refer me for a sleep study even if the one I had done back in like... 2011 didn't show anything.

In OTHER news, however, I sat down and picked up my conversion of the /customize pages and they are now almost done - at the point where I need to cajole other people into testing because I've stared at everything so long I don't see mistakes any more. API stuff is also coming along, though it's more fiddly and tedious to work on.

I also picked up my read-through of the Vorkosigan books again, and finished off everything except Flowers of Vashnoi, which I haven't been able to find DRM-free yet (and it's not in the store for my ereader). Definitely understand why a lot of my friends are fans - I thoroughly enjoyed them. So if you see me leaving kudos on your fic from years ago, that's why.

Reminder to me, from me: having a place for everything to live doesn't help with clutter if you never put anything back where it belongs.

(though it does make the inevitable massive clean-up binge go faster)
A slightly belated happy Friday the 13th from me and Storm (who wanted second dinner, not to be manhandled into selfies at 2am). Just got back from Xmortis and my feet are d o n e. #catsofinstagram #blackcat #goth
✒Horrible manga man~ will be Rohan at the JJBA shoot at 4 today, say hello! #dragoncon #rohankishibe #jjbacosplay #jjba
Accessories for Rohan are all done! The giant pen nibs are going on a top, but I'm letting the glued mountings on the back cure overnight ✒✒✒ #cosplay #cosplaywip #jjbacosplay #jjba #rohankishibe
New England plant friends (@ap1ary @solem.lunam.stellae @graceduffski ) anyone know what this spiky boy is? Found him in my somewhat overgrown iris bog. #plantidentification #mysteryplant
Am I hand-weaving Jotaro's belts? Yes. Why? I don't know how to have normal hobbies. This is mostly pattern-testing - I need to pick an actual warp color, and I may see about making the triangles narrower. #jjbacosplay #cosplaywip #handweaving
Quick #jjba inspired outfit to get BBQ and do karaoke with friends. Andy called these sneakers 'Star Platinum in shoe form' and she's not wrong.
I never got around to posting any Clow photos because I was waiting to dig up this old envelope of film first! The photo on the left is from Shoujocon 2002 - and yes, it is actual film, taken with a cheap disposable camera (which is why the image quality is so bad). This was my first cosplay, at my first con, and I'm so, so glad I could revisit it at Katsucon this year - immense gratitude to @knit_freak_cosplay for organising the group and letting me join in, and @pinnedtogethercosplay for letting me pester her into being Yue for me :) #cosplay #ccs #ccscosplay #clowreed
Quick look I threw together for @xmortis_night on Friday - could've maybe made it a little more feral, but it was a long week. I remain in love with this @studiohibernacula jewelry and my quick'n'dirty feather capelet. #goth #swampwitch

There was a day for the December posting meme about food, which I skipped and meant to come back to later and then never did, which is what this post is.

Basically, about a year ago, I got fed up with buying frozen lunches/dinners to bring to work that just left me feeling sad and disappointed because they were too small to be filling and/or not actually very tasty (only exceptions: the Marie Callendar chicken and broccoli alfredo, and the white cheddar mac and cheese. Which are usually like $5/each when I can even find them). Solution: once a month or so, cook three or four big dishes and divide them into containers and stick them in the freezer.

It's worked out pretty well so far, except for the problem of variety - I really only want recipes that I can re-heat in the microwave (rather than 'pull this out and bake it for an hour before serving'), and a lot of recipe resources are geared towards people who follow very specific Anglo-centric diets (paleo, keto, whole 30, etc), which I'm not really interested in. My dad enjoys both cooking and traveling, so I grew up eating Indian and Tex-Mex and Lebanese and Chinese, with only a smattering of 'typical' American food, and I haven't had much luck finding freezer-cooking resources more varied than Tex-Mex and Italian - both of which I like, but I'd really like some curry recipes and rice recipes and I am not skilled or knowledgeable enough to adapt things myself.

Man May was crazy-busy - Hackathon followed by Anime Central in short order, and my work manager and his wife had their first kid so he was out for three weeks and our three-person team became two (and Murphy's Law meant that we had like three customer escalations). And as much as I love cons and love seeing my friends, I am also looking forward to not traveling anywhere for a few months and also, maybe saving some money? Alternatively, blowing it on things that aren't hotel rooms.

What's been up with all y'all?
My favorite 🍩, for National Donut Day :'D (Look, I cope by shitposting, okay) #cosplay #jjbacosplay #leoneabbacchio #shitposting
